Upcoming Events

A Summer Study of Titus, Philemon, Jude, 2 John, and 3 John
Tuesdays at 10:00 A.M. in the Cheek House

Leaders: Beth Hamilton and Etta Wilson
In our six sessions this summer, we will examine these very short NT letters written between 60 and 90 A.D.  In our first session, we will open the study with a brief update of the period and the events –fall of Jerusalem, Paul’s being imprisoned twice, and the geographical spread of the Christian faith during these years. In the following five sessions we will then discuss one letter per week, using Eugene Peterson’s The Message as our text. Each letter, while facing some dire situations, offers hope and encouragement to its recipients. Copies of the texts used will be distributed in each session. We will also incorporate some poetry by Kentucky poet Wendell Berry from his new book, This Day, Collected and New Sabbath Poems as a part of each session.

Presbyterian Women Fall Kick-Off
Tuesday, September 12
Guest Speaker, Mary Glynn Peeples: 11:00 A.M. in the Sanctuary
Lunch: 12:00 A.M. in the The Gathering Place
Mary Glynn Peeples, a wife and mother of three, has learned to rise above the stresses that come with daily life.  She shares her insights of hope and joy with thousands through her speaking engagements and her book,“All We Like Sheep.” From God’s perspective we are all like sheep, and we can understand ourselves through a study of the characteristics of sheep. This book, which has sold over 50,000 copies, is a practical guide for living the Christian life.  By reading this book in our Presbyterian Women fall book study, we will learn specific ways to understand and accept ourselves better and develop more satisfactory relationships with God and others to create consistency and balance in our daily lives. Registration for this event is coming soon. The book, “All We Like Sheep,” can be purchased in our church book store.
