Funerals

Upon the death of a loved one, a pastor of the church should be notified as soon as possible. Our pastors also desire to know of those who need comfort and counsel as they face death. By being involved early in situations of death or impending death, the pastor can help with the necessary decisions regarding service arrangements, as well as caring for the spiritual needs of those involved.

To contact a pastor, call the church office at (615) 383-1815. After office hours, call the church office for information on how to reach the on-call pastor.

A Checklist for Families

First Presbyterian Church has prepared “A Checklist for Families” that may assist the bereaved in decisions that are necessary at the death of a loved one. We have also prepared a Pre-Planning a Funeral/Memorial Service document to help you and your loved ones in advance of a death. Contact our church office at (615) 383-1815 for information.

The Columbarium

A columbarium is an area consecrated to the perpetual housing of ashes of the deceased. First Presbyterian Church’s columbarium is in the Sullivan Gardens, located between the sanctuary and Cheek House. The plots in the columbarium are reserved for current church members, long-time church staff members and their immediate family.

Download a brochure with more information on the columbarium.

For information on a plot in the columbarium, contact Annette Crout at acrout@fpcnashville.org or (615) 298-9507.

Death and Funeral Information

Our church offers a ministry of love and hope to all who grieve. Christians do not bear bereavement in isolation but are sustained by the power of the Spirit and a community of faith. If you are interested in receiving an email after the death of a church member, sign up to receive our Death and Funeral Notices. The bereaved family has to make many decisions during this difficult time so please understand that the information in this immediate communication may change. For future information, please read the local obituary.
