Small Group Leader

Sarah Fala

Sarah Fala has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Duke, an MDiv from Duke’s Divinity School, and is in her 3rd year of a 5-year ThD (doctor of theology) program at Duke, with a focus on Christ-centered discipleship. FPC Nashville mercifully helped Sarah branch out from Duke by calling her husband, Joey, to serve as an organist and choral conductor. Sarah and Joey love designing experiences to make space for flourishing together as an intergenerational church family, from late-night organ demos and choral singing to small group discussions at home or on hikes to sushi-making parties and playing games. Sarah loves discussing deep questions about God and our encounters and perceptions, including the mystery and difficulty of suffering (abandonment, shame, injustice, etc.) as well as the unlikely beauty that can emerge in darkness, especially when accompanied by friends. Sarah serves as a teaching assistant for church history and theology classes in the hybrid MDiv program at Duke, and in her research she aims to integrate wisdom from various sources to help address pressing questions and needs of contemporary discipleship.
