For mature adults retired and not so retired!
First Friends is a dynamic ministry that caters to the needs of adults in the later stages of life, including those who are almost-retired, just-retired, and considerably retired. Our ministry's primary goal is to provide spiritual and social support to members over the age of 55 and to connect them with the church family for fellowship, service, and personal growth. We recognize that each senior adult approaches the later years in their unique way, and we strive to be responsive to their specific needs and preferences. Our activities are carefully planned to cater to this broad range of needs and preferences.
We organize a monthly gathering on the third Thursday of each month, where our members come together for a delicious lunch and an informative program in Courtenay Hall. We strive to provide programs that educate or instruct including local history, church programs, and community events and local leaders. These gatherings provide an excellent opportunity for First Friends to learn, socialize, and engage with one another. Cost is $10 per person.
First Friends ministry also features a book club that meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the Memorial Library. At these gatherings, we engage in stimulating conversations about books selected by the group. Our selections feature contemporary and historical fiction, as well as an occasional memoir or biography. We welcome all book lovers to join us and participate in these lively and thought-provoking discussions. Book suggestions are always welcome!
The First Friends committee and staff are always seeking new ways to explore our local area and enjoy community events together. We also look for opportunities to serve mission partners as representatives of the church. We are continuously developing new offerings to cater to the needs and preferences of our members. If you have an activity or interest that you'd like us to explore together, please reach out to First Friends Coordinator, Sally Ostheimer. If you have interest in becoming involved in our First Friends committee, please let Sally know as well.
Join us on Thursdays at 10:45 a.m. for a gathering of those interested in walking, exercise and fellowship at Radnor Lake. For those who wish, meet for lunch following the walk. For questions, please contact Linda Thompson or Sally Ostheimer.
First Friends gathers regularly for monthly luncheons, book clubs, and other ways to connect with other adults in a similar life stage.
