Director of Communications 

Position Summary: The Director of Communications is First Presbyterian Church’s chief storyteller helping the Church to remember who we have been, and who are we called to be as an outpost of Christ’s kingdom. The Director of Communications has primary responsibility for a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to advance and strengthen the Church’s mission “to know Christ, to make Him known, and to exhibit His love through worship, education, and service.”  The Communications Ministry targets appropriate constituencies both inside and outside the Church community using digital and print media to tell compelling stories in meaningful, engaging ways.

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, or Marketing, preferred.
  • An active, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Knowledge of the bible, the Reformed tradition, and an ability to integrate the Christian faith into day-to-day work in a way that brings about the advancement of the gospel, required.
  • Multiple years of working in a managerial capacity in Communications, Marketing, or Journalism work experience, required.
  • Experience leading marketing and communications programs, preferably in a church setting, plus a record of accomplishment in strategic content marketing, including communications planning and execution, creative concept development, and strategic messaging/positioning.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Must possess a strong journalistic visual storytelling style and ability to produce content; have superb writing skills with strong attention to detail; and possess advanced knowledge of multimedia communication platforms, including digital and social, in addition to print communications.
  • Must be motivated and self-directed; a proven strategic problem-solver, influencer, and relationship manager with a results orientation; and a demonstrated trusted advisor.
  • Strong collaborative skills with proven success influencing external and internal groups, contributing to cross-functional ministries and congregational engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and diverse teams of people to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, and ability to learn church management software.
  • Knowledge of WordPress or other website content management systems, and have experience developing and launching new websites.
  • Knowledge of Mailchimp or other email marketing software.
  • Familiarity with video and audio editing/streaming applications.
  • Ability to operate basic audio/visual equipment.

The Early Preschool at First Presbyterian Church Nashville

We are now accepting applications for part-time Early Childhood Educators for the 2020/2021 school year. Experience with and knowledge of NAEYC standards, TN Stars Assessment, Handwriting Without Tears, and Emergent Curriculum is desired. Teaching positions are 3 and 5 days/week, school year position, 8:30 A.M. – 2:45 P.M. Substitute teachers also needed.
