The Lord's Supper

Communion

Celebrating the Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper enacts and seals what the Word proclaims: God’s sustaining grace offered to all people. When we gather at the Lord’s Supper the Spirit draws us into Christ’s presence and unites with the Church in every time and place. We reaffirm the promises of our baptism and recommit ourselves to love and serve God, one another, and our neighbors in the world. The opportunity to eat and drink with Christ is not a right bestowed upon the worthy, but a privilege given to the undeserving who come in faith, repentance, and love. Communion at First Presbyterian Church is offered to all baptized Christians, regardless of their age or understanding.

At-Home Communion Serves Members

The Session of First Presbyterian Church provides its local homebound members an opportunity to receive the Lord’s Supper in their home. On several Sundays a year, the Session sends several teams to serve members who are no longer able to come to church because of persistent health problems. The two-member teams visit homebound members that have made prior arrangements to be visited.

2024 At-Home Communion Dates:

  • Sunday, January 14
  • Sunday, May 19
  • Sunday, October 6

If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact Dr. Sandra Randleman here.

Founded in 1814, First Presbyterian was born by grace. We are an outpost of the kingdom, called to glorify the Triune God, to make known the crucified and risen Christ, and to advance the gospel of God’s free and redeeming grace. Whether you are a long-time member or are new to First Presbyterian, we would love to help you find ways to get more connected.
